1 Fahrenheit = 255.9278 Kelvin

Key Formulas

Celsius → Fahrenheit

°F = f(°C)

Fahrenheit → Celsius

°C = f(°F)

Celsius → Kelvin

K = f(°C)

Kelvin → Celsius

°C = f(K)

Formula

K = (°F + 459.67) ÷ 1.8

Fahrenheit is an offset temperature scale, while kelvin is the SI unit of thermodynamic temperature measured from absolute zero. Add 459.67 to move the Fahrenheit zero point to absolute zero, then divide by 1.8 because a kelvin interval is 1.8 times a Fahrenheit interval. This conversion is useful when a Fahrenheit instrument or legacy specification feeds a calculation that requires kelvins. Inputs below −459.67°F fall outside the ordinary thermodynamic temperature scale.

Real-World Examples

A 32°F phase-change reference is converted to 273.15 K for a thermodynamics calculation.

32 °F = 273.15 K

A laboratory instrument reports an ambient temperature of 68°F, and the data sheet requires 293.15 K.

68 °F = 293.15 K

An industrial controller records a 500°F process setpoint that must be entered as 533.15 K in a thermal model.

500 °F = 533.15 K

An environmental chamber test at −40°F is documented as 233.15 K for an SI-based report.

-40 °F = 233.15 K
