Automotive Converter
Convert speed, distance, and fuel efficiency for vehicles
Compare stated vehicle quantities in matching units: identify the gallon convention for fuel economy, distinguish speed from distance, and retain the original measurement or rating context.

Context
US and Imperial MPG use different gallons. MPG and km/L measure distance per fuel, while L/100km measures fuel per distance. A conversion removes the unit difference but does not reconcile different test cycles or predict a particular trip. Volume, speed, distance and mass are separate quantities; use the matching tool and check the original specification.

Why this matters
Re-express a hypothetical consumption value
30 US MPG is approximately 7.8405 L/100km. Compare a different rating only after checking its source and test conditions; unit conversion alone does not establish relative real-world efficiency.
Understanding tire pressure specifications
Your car's manual says 32 psi, but the gas station pump shows bar. You need to convert to inflate tires to the correct pressure.
Calculating fuel range and trip costs
A cross-country trip is 1000 km. Your car's fuel economy is listed in mpg. You need to convert distance and efficiency to estimate fuel cost.
Distinguish distance and speed
An odometer reports distance; a speedometer reports distance per time. Use km-to-miles for the first quantity and km/h-to-mph for the second.
Frequently asked
One car gets 30 mpg, another uses 7.8 liters per 100 km. Which is more efficient? →
30 US MPG is approximately 7.8405 L/100km, numerically above 7.8 L/100km. This comparison assumes the same measurement conditions; different rating cycles need their original context. Use US MPG to L/100km and name the gallon convention.
My tire pressure spec is 32 psi, but the pump shows bar. How many bar is that? →
32 psi is approximately 2.2063 bar. Use PSI to bar for the unit conversion and retain the original specification’s conditions. This result does not determine the appropriate pressure for a vehicle.
How far is 500 km in miles? I'm planning a road trip. →
500 km is approximately 310.6856 miles. Use km to miles. Distance alone does not establish travel time or fuel use.
My car's fuel economy is 35 mpg. How many liters per 100 km is that? →
35 US MPG is approximately 6.7204 L/100km; 35 Imperial MPG represents a different consumption. Use the fuel calculator with the original convention. Conversion does not establish compliance with a different rating system.
The speed limit is 90 km/h. What's that in mph? →
A stated 90 km/h is approximately 55.9234 mph. Use km/h to mph. Check actual local signs separately; no national speed-limit claim is made here.
How many pounds is a stated vehicle mass of 1500 kg? →
1500 kg is approximately 3306.9339 avoirdupois pounds using 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg. Use kg to lb. Unit conversion alone does not establish allowable load or towing capacity.
Where can I verify these conversion definitions? →
The worked numbers derive from NIST named conversion factors, NIST exact-pound footnote 22, NIST temperature formulas and NIST Handbook 44 Appendix C. Fuel rating context is described in the EPA testing explanation. Hypothetical examples state their own assumptions.
