How to Measure
Measure in the evening, when your feet are at their largest, wearing the socks or hosiery you'll wear with the shoes. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the tip of your longest toe, and measure from the wall to the mark in centimeters. Use the larger foot. The standard US women's width is B, narrower than the men's D, so if your feet are wide, look for C, D, or W widths instead of going up half a size.
Notes
Brands drift from these conversions by half a size or more. Many European brands make women's shoes in whole EU sizes only, so if you fall between two, try both.
Frequently Asked Questions
Women's US sizing and UK sizing use different numbering scales that don't share a fixed small offset the way men's sizes roughly do — the gap is typically around 2.5 sizes (a US 8 is roughly a UK 5.5). This is a result of each system's independent historical development rather than a simple conversion rule.
This is a common rough approximation (subtracting about 1.5–2 from a men's US size gives an approximate women's US size for the same foot length), but it's not exact — men's and women's shoes are typically built on different lasts (width and shape), so matching foot length in centimeters via the dedicated women's chart is more reliable than converting from a men's size.
Many unisex styles print both sizes, such as "M 6.5 / W 8". When only the men's size appears, subtract about 1.5 to 2 from your women's US size, then check your foot length against the cm column on our men's shoe size chart. Men's and unisex lasts are wider, so the shoe may feel roomy even when the length is right.
